Bing Integrates Facebook Within Search Results

August 2, 2011

Bing has made an announcement that could deal a large blow to rival search giant Google. Starting in July, Bing has been incorporating Facebook data into their search results. When conducting a Bing search, if the user has activated Facebook results, they will see which sites, products and websites that user’s friends like and recommend. These will show very high in results, with no regard if that website normally would rank first or even last.

With such a tight integration between Bing and Facebook and the fact that Facebook has more than seven hundred and fifty million users worldwide, this can tremendously impact the search engine landscape. This also gives Facebook users a new reason to use Bing rather than Google for their online searching. Another note of interest is that Facebook has the ability to block Google from indexing any or all of its content, which could significantly lessen Google search use by Facebook users.
